We cry to You, O Lord how long?
We wait on you with plaintiff song.
But wars and violence abound
Will you not evil men confound?
Your law is held in low regard
And justice fails and men are barred
From living as the righteous would
When justice is not understood.
We know not when Your hand will strike
Nor how You'll use ungodly might.
The lawless and the ruthless hoards
Deride the peace that God affords.
You are the everlasting Lord.
Will you not judge their just reward?
Men swarm in lives of luxury,
Whilst Thy dear people wait on Thee.
I'll stand at my high resting place,
And wait to hear His words of grace.
We know He answers pleading prayer
And that His judgement's always fair.
The Lord replies that He has heard;
Instructing plainly in His word.
He knows how every sinful man
Would taunt and scorn His glorious plan.
All the vain things that man enjoys!
Lifeless, the idols he adores
Can no more come to wretched life
Or put an end to all their strife.
But God from on His throne above
Has demonstrated of His Love.
And we in silence wait that time
When we shall meet the Son divine.
