We come, O Lord, on this Thy day
To worship and adore;
The claims of work, we set aside,
As here, we fill our store
Of love and joy and confidence,
Of fellowship with Thee,
And add to these Thy precious gift
Of calm serenity.
We seek release and respite, Lord,
From all that peace destroys;
We feel confined by city life,
By buildings, bustle, noise.
How precious, then, to feel assured
That Thou art truly here;
To feel Thy peace possess our souls
And drive away our fear.
And so, within Thy sanctuary
We wait upon Thee now,
Fulfil Thy word, come quickly down
And touch each fevered brow.
Like her of old, we touch Thy hem,
And seek to be made whole;
O come to us, Thy hand stretch forth,
And heal each needy soul.
