We looked to one who changed the earth,
When men had gone astray;
We need again to know His worth,
The power of Christ today.
This power was seen in human form
Outside a city wall;
This power can be today reborn
In me, in you, in all.
How shall I face a world of steel
Alone? The fierce front line?
New courage comes when I can feel
The hand of Christ in mine.
How shall I tell each way to go,
When no clear signs I see;
The path lies hidden—till I know
The mind of Christ in me.
Why should I be concerned for those
With whom I don’t agree?
Released from self, the answer flows:
The heart of Christ in me.
What can I give a world in pain,
What aches to be set free?
This I can give, and give again
The love of Christ in me.
The problems of today require
far more than will to win;
Our goals remain just vain desire
Without the Christ within.
He looks to us to change the earth,
To live, to love, to pray.
He needs us now to show his worth;
His power in us today.
