Offering peace to Zion’s city,
Jesus Christ has come to town.
Crowds are shouting, He rides lonely,
Knows how passing man’s renown
Cry Hosannas;
Raise palm banners!
Soon He’ll wear a thorny crown.
Healing blind, befriending outcast,
Jesus comes to Jericho.
To these men He brings contentment,
Healing and the means to grow.
Crowds scowl nudging,
Health begrudging;
Jesus knows the jealous foe.
To the town of friends and family,
He comes home to Nazareth.
There He preaches, bold, defiant,
Words which take away their breath,
Outraged Jewry
In a fury,
Fellow-townsmen seek His death.
Now today He comes to our town,
What will His reception be?
Will we welcome Him, then shun Him,
Grudge the health and change we see?
He will shock us
Stir us, rock us
Will we hang Him on a tree?
He brings friendship to the lonely,
Welcome home for all the lost;
Rivals He transforms to partners,
Haven gives the tempest-tossed.
Such His care for
All men; therefore
He himself has paid the cost.
Such His care for all men living,
We His church must love men too.
He has shown that people matter:
Died and lives to make men new.
In His power
Ev’ry hour
This new life we share with you.
Help to change the life of nations,
Turn the world quite upside down.
We proclaim new life in Jesus:
Jesus Christ has come to town!
Cry Hosannas;
Raise the banners!
Jesus Christ has come to town!
