Jesus, we love to meet Thee
On this glad festal day;
Our songs of joy shall greet Thee,
And sorrows flee away!
We come with lips confessing
Thy name in gladsome praise,
And hearts that seek Thy blessing
For all the coming days.
We thank Thee for the glory
Of each returning spring:
Oh may we read Thy story
In every lovely thing!
The woodlands in their splendour,
The starry skies above,
Their silent witness render
To Thee whose name is love.
We bring Thee all the gladness
With which our lives are blest;
We bring Thee, too, the sadness,
For Thou canst give us rest:
For whether joy or sorrow
Shall mark our pilgrim way,
They need not fear tomorrow,
Who walk with Thee today.
And so we bring the treasure
Of life’s unfolding spring,
And seek, in growing measure,
To serve Thee as our King:
Then every day before us
Will be a day of praise
Worthy to swell the chorus
That actual voices raise!
