Lord Jesus, in Thy footsteps
We come to take our stand,
And pledge Thee loyal service
In keeping Thy command.
As Thou in Jordan’s river
In faith and hope didst bow,
We would go through these waters
To make our solemn vow.
We know we are unworthy;
Our hearts are soiled within.
Lord, help us now to bury
And wash away our sin.
Lord, help us in the newness
Of risen life with Thee
Henceforth by Thine enabling
True witnesses to be.
As then at Thy baptizing
Thy Father blessed Thy name,
And from the opened heaven
The Spirit’s favour came,
So, gracious Lord and Master,
Do Thou Thy gift bestow,
That cleanses, inspired and guided,
We in Thy likeness grow.
Upon Thy grace relying
To meet temptation’s hour.
We’d face life’s tests with courage
And conquer in Thy power.
Thy Kingdom’s sway extending,
Thy will our vital breath,
O Lord, may we Thy servants
Prove faithful unto death.
