Jesus, in thy lowliness,
Thou didst little children bless;
Ours, with equal pity see,
Whom we teach to trust in thee.
While we watch for them and pray,
While we bid them thee obey,
Make them all thy goodness learn,
And to thee in childhood turn.
Though by nature prone to sin,
May they a new life begin;
Fill them with thy grace divine,
Saviour, make them wholly thine.
May we by our conduct show
Them the way which they must go;
By our tempers, words, and ways,
Ever living to thy praise.
Thus, by our example taught,
May they be to wisdom brought;
Grow in goodness, faith, and love,
Blessings to their parents prove.
Sanctify them by thy truth;
Make them give thee all their youth;
And beneath thy loving care
For their heavenly home prepare.
