O Lamb of God
whose perfect love,
In face of hate and human wrong,
Has found a way to meet my need
By patient suffering—silence strong!
I cannot pass your outstretched arms
To face a fate forlorn and long.
Your mercy pleads
for my response,
Your grace abounding
claims my soul,
Your seamless robe of righteousness
Can cover me and make me whole;
How can I try in naked shame
To brave the fight with sin’s control?
I have no right to claim your aid,
Nor can I plead what I have done;
In your pure presence nothing hides
My secret sins, O searching Sun;
Yet you have overcome my sin
By victory already won!
Your death for sin has cancelled all
The shame and guilt you saw in me;
Your risen life of joy and peace
Is mine by glorious guarantee.
Your Spirit’s seal I welcome now
And yield to love so glad and free.
