DALETH.
Alas! I am as brought to grave,
and almost turned to dust;
Therefore restore my life again,
as thy promise is just.
My ways when I acknowledgèd,
with mercy thou didst hear;
Hear now also, and me instruct
thy laws to love and fear.
Make me, O Lord, to understand
thy precepts evermore;
Then on thy works I'll meditate,
and lay them up in store.
My soul I feel so sore oppressed,
that it doth melt for grief;
According to thy word therefore
haste, Lord, to send relief.
From lying and deceitful lips
let thy grace me defend;
And that I may learn thee to love,
thy holy law me send.
The way of truth both straight and sure
I chosen have and found;
Before me I thy judgments set,
which keep me safe and sound.
Since then, O Lord, I readily
thy covenants embrace,
Let me therefore have no rebuke,
nor check in any case.
Then will I run most joyfully
where thy word doth me call,
When thou enlarged hast my heart,
and rid me out of thrall.
