That with glad voices, we thy matchless virtues,
May, O great Baptist, through the world proclaim,
From sin’s corruption free our lips declaring
Thy glorious fame.
From highest heaven an Angel bright descendeth,
And to thy father doth make thy glory known,
While all thy greatness, fame, and shining virtues,
To him are shown.
He weakly doubting, for his faith’s purgation
In mute amazement these wonders must behold,
Till speech returning, he thy advent hailing,
God’s high praises told.
Cloister’d in darkness, in the womb yet dwelling,
Thee, the Lord’s presence, with rapture did inspire;
While those high parents sing their song of triumph,
Filled with love’s fire.
Praise, fame, and blessing, to the Great Eternal,
With Thee, O Jesu, His co-eternal Son;
Praise to the Spirit, through all ages living;—
God, Three in One.
