On wings of love the Christian flies,
And upward speeds his way!
The empty world neglected lies,
Nor tempts him here to stay.
Though savage beasts of prey surround,
Yet still he’ll onward go;
Though thorns and briars o’erspread the ground,
He makes a passage through.
Amidst ten thousand lurking snares,
He treads the heavenly road,
Drops as he goes his pains and cares,
And presses on to God.
Now from his Father’s house he views,
The labours of the way;
No sad event his grief renews,
Nor shall his joys decay.
