Awake, our souls in joyful lays,
To sing the great Redeemer’s praise;
Our lips and lives should join to tell,
That he has saved from sin and hell.
He who saw us ruined in the fall,
Yet loved us notwithstanding all;
He saved us from our lost estate,
His loving-kindness, Oh how great!
Though numerous hosts of mighty foes;
Though earth and hell our way oppose;
He safely leads our souls along,
His loving-kindness, Oh how strong!
Often we feel our sinful heart,
Prone from our Saviour to depart;
But though we have him oft forgot,
His loving-kindness changes not.
Soon shall we pass the gloomy vale;
Soon all our mortal powers must fail;
Oh! may our last expiring breath
His loving-kindness sing in death.
Then let us mount and soar away,
To the bright world of endless day;
And sing with rapture and surprise
His loving-kindness in the skies.
