Eternal Spirit, who art here,
Our great and gracious Comforter,
Thy power and goodness we adore,
Thy teaching seek, thy help implore.
Henceforth with us do thou abide,
Our hearts to keep, our steps to guide;
All truth and duty make us know;
All wisdom and all strength bestow.
To worldly passions make us die,
And each wrong temper mortify;
Strengthen our faith, and ever bless
With love and gentle lowliness.
Our hearts with holy zeal inspire
To burn for God, as flames of fire;
Adorn both age and early youth
With goodness, righteousness, and truth.
Each guilty wanderer restore,
And bid the doubting doubt no more;
Chase all our unbelief away,
And aid us whenso’er we pray.
Each day our light and strength increase,
Fill us, through faith, with joy and peace;
By thy Almighty grace defend,
And keep us safely to the end.
Oh, may we ne’er thy statutes leave,
Nor by our sins thy feelings grieve;
But still, beneath thy guardian care,
For our eternal home prepare.
