Part ii
Faint not Christian; in thy woes
God can give thee sweet repose;
If the wicked thee distress,
God is mightier to bless.
Faint not, if thy foes be strong,
Faint not, if the strife be long;
Faint not, though thy way be rude,
Through a cheerless solitude.
If thy weak and wayward heart
Ever from thy God depart;
Mourn thy sinful, shameful, fall,
And for promised mercy call.
Humbly all thy sins confess;
Plead the Saviour’s righteousness;
Beg of God restoring grace,
And at once renew thy race.
Whatsoe’er thy sorrows be,
Christ hath suffered more for thee;
Saints have borne the torturing rack,
Martyrs triumphed at the stake.
Some have learned in chains to sing,
Praise to Christ, their Lord and King;
Some have left at duty’s call,
Friends, possessions, country, all.
Faint not; God who knows thy state,
Will not leave thee desolate;
He, who for his people cares,
Feels thy sorrows, hears thy prayers.
