Forebodings, sad, and anxious cares,
Are needless thorns and dangerous snares;
They cast dishonour on the Lord,
And contradict his faithful word.
Brought safely by his hand thus far,
Why should we now give place to care?
How can we want if he provides,
Or lose our way with such a guide?
When first before his mercy seat,
We did to him our all commit;
He gave us warrant from that hour,
To trust his wisdom, love, and power.
Did ever trouble yet befall.
And he refuse to hear our call?
And hath he not the promise passed,
That we shall overcome at last?
He that hath helped us hitherto,
Will help us all our journey through;
And give us daily cause to raise,
New Ebenezers to his praise.
