God is our Guardian and our Guide,
His care must for our wants provide;
He only can from grief defend,
Or lead us to our journey’s end.
Holy and just, he hates to see
The very least iniquity;
Omniscient, he doth always know
All that his people think or do.
His bounty doth our comforts give,
Sustained by him we move and live;
Our countless sins he hath forgiven,
He cheers on earth and gives us heaven.
Oh! if we wish that heaven to win,
We must not dare to live in sin;
We must not sin, if we would please
Him who our thoughts and actions see.
