God’s mercy is for ever sure,
Eternal as his name;
As long as life and thought endure,
We will this truth proclaim.
We basely sinned against his love,
And yet our God was good;
Christ came our ruin to remove,
And we are bought with blood.
That precious blood atones for sin,
And fully clears from guilt;
It makes the vilest sinner clean;
It was for sinners spilt.
Christ raised us from the lowest state,
Or hell had been our doom;
And did our hearts regenerate,
And saves from wrath to come.
No foe against us can prevail,
Since he is now our friend;
In danger other help may fail,
But we on him depend.
