Jesus has come to seek the lost,
The dead in sin to save;
No trivial price our rescue cost,
For us his life he gave.
And now when any sinner prays,
By guilt and fear oppressed,
“Come unto me,” the Saviour says,
“And I will give you rest.”
All those who come, as he has said,
His easy yoke to take,
Laden with guilt, of hell afraid,
Are pardoned for his sake.
When in our weakness, help we need,
He will not crush the weak:
The wounded heart, the bruised reed,
His kindness will not break.
And if a soul his way forsakes,
Till life almost expires,
He will not quench the smoking flax,
But fan its dying fires.
O Jesus, thou art good and kind,
Thy goodness we adore;
may we thy precepts keep in mind,
And serve thee evermore.
