Jesus, while we our children train
Obedient to thy word,
O’er their young hearts in mercy reign
And faith to them afford.
We strive to teach them thou art good
And bring their minds to thee;
May they converted and renewed,
Thy true disciples be.
When thou wast here, ‘twas not in vain
That parents round thee pressed;
So what we ask may we obtain,
And see our children blessed.
Early thy saving grace impart,
Their souls by truth renew;
And write upon each tender heart
Thy name and nature too.
May they, like thee when here below
Thy earthly course began,
in wisdom as in stature grow,
Beloved by God and man.
