My soul, bless the Lord,
The Glorious, the Great,
By angels adored,
And seated in state;
The broad ocean under,
The sky o’er him cast,
He speaks in the thunder,
He walks on the blast!
All creatures on earth
Upon him await;
He gave them their birth,
He gives them their date:
To him as a Father
For nurture they cry;
He gives and they gather,
Withholds, and they die.
His Spirit gives food,
And life to the soul;
By him ‘tis renewed,
By him ‘tis made whole:
As able to fumble,
As prompt to forgive,
He frowns and we tremble,
He smiles and we live.
To God every day,
Our homage we’ll bring;
His will we’ll obey,
His praises we’ll sing:
In sweet meditation
His mercies we’ll trace;
Enjoy his salvation,
And trust in his grace.
