No more, O God, we boast no more,
Of all the duties we have done;
We quit the hopes we held before,
To trust the merits of thy Son.
Now trusting to his sacred name,
What was our gain we count our loss;
Our former pride we call our shame,
And glory only in his cross.
Yes, and till death we will esteem
All things but loss for Jesus’ sake;
Oh, may our souls be found in him,
And of his righteousness partake.
The best obedience of our hands,
Dares not appear before thy throne;
But faith can answer thy demands,
By pleading what our Lord has done.
