Not on ourselves, O Lord,
For we are sinful dust,
But on thy sure and faithful word,
We place our only trust.
What though each coming hour
Should grief or danger bring,
Yet they who know thy love and power,
May triumph in their King.
For, sinful as they are,
Those who, through grace, are thine,
On earth are thy peculiar care,
And will in glory shine.
What can our hopes destroy?
Henceforth through all our days,
Be ours a pure and glorious joy,
Be thine, eternal praise.
