Now may the Spirit’s holy fire,
Descending from above,
Our waiting hearts with faith inspire
With joy, and peace, and love.
Thee we the Comforter confess;
Unless thou’rt present here,
We shall in vain our God address,
We utter heartless prayer.
Blessed Spirit teach us how to praise,
To meditate and pray,
And while our thoughts to God we raise,
Bless us with grace to-day.
Touch with a living coal, the lip
That shall proclaim thy word;
And make us all in meekness keep,
The precepts of our Lord.
