O God whom we revere and love,
To whom in need we call,
There’s none like thee in Heaven above,
Nor on this earthly ball.
Brightly the orb of day at noon,
Sheds over earth its light;
So thou art our eternal sun,
Whose beams can banish night.
To thee we owe our health and friends,
And all that cheers our road;
Thanks for the joys thy mercy sends,
But these are not our God.
Vainly should we depend on health,
Youth’s fleeting hours are vain;
Nor can success, or ease, or wealth,
Save us from death or pain.
Could we all earthly gifts possess,
And call the earth our own,
Without thy pardon and thy grace,
We should be still undone.
But with thy grace and pardon blessed,
What can we ask for more?
The gift of Christ secures the rest,
We love and we adore.
