O Lord our Saviour and our King,
Of all we have or hope the spring;
Make us thy followers to prove
Like thee in lowliness and love.
May we from every act abstain
Which wrongs, or gives another pain;
May we each secret wish suppress
Which would abridge his happiness.
May malice ne’er within us dwell,
Malice which makes the heart a hell;
Nor angry passions empire gain,
Not jealousy, not envy, reign.
From selfishness and hatred freed,
May we be kind in word and deed;
Tender and true to brethren shown,
Friends to our foes and foes to none.
When friends rejoice may we be glad,
And mourn when we behold them sad,
Unto the weak our aid impart
And comfort to the wounded heart.
May goodness through our conduct shine
Our hearts and lives resemble thine;
And thus may we thy followers prove,
Like thee in lowliness and love.
