O thou, who known through fiery tongues,
Cam’st down in open view,
Now visit every heart that longs
To entertain thee too.
And though not like the mighty wind,
Nor with a rushing noise,
May we thy equal influence find,
And taste of equal joys.
Not for the gift of tongues we pray,
Nor power the sick to heal;
Give wisdom to direct our way,
And strength to do thy will.
We pray to have our faith increased
To grow in hope and love;
With zeal and lion-courage blessed,
Yet gentle as the dove.
