Praise ye the Lord; our hearts shall join
To praise his power and love divine;
Now, while the earth is our abode,
And when our souls ascend to God.
Praise shall employ our noblest powers,
While immortality endures:
Our days of praise shall ne’er be past,
While life, and thought, and being last.
Why should we fondly place our trust
On those who soon must turn to dust?
All wealth and rank, all pomp and power,
Are but the pageant of an hour.
Happy the men whose hopes rely
On God, who made the earth and sky:
O’er earth and sky extends his reign,
And none shall find his promise vain.
