Raise your triumphant songs
For God has given his Son;
Let earth proclaim with all her tongues,
What love divine hath done.
See how the God of grace
His best-beloved chose;
And bade him raise our wretched race
From their abyss of woes.
His hand no thunder rolls,
No terror clothes his brow;
He hath no bolts to drive our souls
To fiercer flames below.
‘Twas mercy filled the throne,
And wrath stood silent by,
When Christ was sent with pardons down
To rebel doomed to die.
No longer, sinners, rove,
Let hopeless sorrow cease;
Bow to the sceptre of his love,
And take the offered peace.
Lord Jesus, make them bow:
Yield to thy sovereign claim
Accept thy great salvation now
And love and bless thy name.
