Thy goodness, Father, we confess,
Thy greatness we adore;
Since thou dost all our moments bless,
Oh, make us love thee more.
Thy love has given the sunny light,
And the moon’s paler ray;
Thy care protects us through the night,
And guides us through the day.
‘Tis through the power by thee bestowed,
Nature its treasures yields;
The fruit tree gives its blushing load,
Their ripened grain the fields.
But chiefly doth thy gospel, Lord,
Declare thy grace divine;
And in the pages of thy word,
Thy brightest glories shine.
‘Tis through our Saviour’s death and shame,
Glory to us is given;
And to the cross and grave he came,
That we might reign in heaven.
We’ll love thee while our lives shall last;
We’ll walk in all thy ways;
And then, when time and death are past,
We’ll give thee better praise.
