‘Tis not the time to sleep,
For many foes are nigh,
And many a vigil we must keep
Ere we shall reach the sky.
Each soldier must awake,
To seek a strength divine;
That we may strive for Jesus’ sake
Against the world and sin.
The world of sin have might,
Dangers beset our road;
But we may wear, in every fight,
The panoply of God.
Prayer still new strength shall yield,
Hope its defence afford;
Faith be our ever ready shield,
The word of God our sword.
Thus by the Spirit’s aid
We’ll strive till life is o’er;
Till every sin is prostrate laid,
And the world tempts no more.
So when our toil is done,
And every conflict past,
We shall behold the victory won
And rest with Christ at last.
