Welcome that great and dreadful day,
Which sweeps delusive hopes away;
Thy sacrifice, atoning Lamb.
Absolves from guilt and saves from shame.
Welcome that hour thy foes may dread,
When thou shall judge the quick and dead;
Since thou hast saved us by thy grace,
And art become our hiding place.
Why should thy servants shrink to meet
The terrors of the Judgement-seat,
Since, in thy merits, we possess
A spotless robe of righteousness?
We will not dread that awful throne,
Since thou hast suffered to atone;
Nor can we fear to quit the grave,
Since thou dost live to bless and save.
