What now by us is known,
Which children-like we boast,
Will fade like glow-worms in the sun,
Or drops in ocean lost.
Of all that God bestows,
In earth or heaven above,
The best gift saint or angel knows,
Or e’en will know, is love.
Love, strength and zeal supplies,
Makes greatest trials small;
Can pray, and praise, and sacrifice,
And consecrate our all.
Descend celestial Dove,
Within our hearts abide,
Give us that best of blessings, love,
And all is well beside.
But love shall still remain,
Its glories cannot cease;
No other change shall that sustain,
Save only to increase.
