When Moses in the desert raised
The brazen serpent high,
The wounded in the camp were eased,
The dying did not die.
“Look up and live,” the prophet cries,
They look and life receive;
So sinners lift their dying eyes
Unto the cross and live.
High on the cross the Saviour hung,
Then rose in heaven to dwell;
And sinners by the serpent stung,
Look, and are saved from hell.
Since Jesus has been lifted up
To die, and still he lives,
The hopeless are now born to hope,
The dying world revives.
