Why should we say ‘tis yet too soon
To seek for heaven, or think of death?
A flower may fade before ‘tis noon;
And we this day may lose our breath.
If that rebellious heart of thine,
Sinner, despise the call of heaven,
Thou may’st be hardened in thy sin,
And never have repentance given.
What, if God’ dreadful anger burn
Whilst thou his Son and Spirit slight,
If mercy into justice turn,
Thy soul may be required to night.
Then t’will for ever be in vain
To cry for pardon or for grace;
Thou canst not have thy life again,
Nor hope to see thy Saviour’s face.
o sinner, do corrupt and weak,
While reason, health, and life are spared,
Turn to the Lord, his mercy seek,
Serve him, and great is your reward.
