Why will ye die? There yet is hope,
Why perish with relief in view?
Christ on the cross was lifted up
For you, ye dying souls, for you:
Oh, lift to him each downcast eye
He died that you might never die.
Why will ye die? This long delay,
When life is lost, and death is sure,
May give you up, the serpent’s prey,
To perish without hope of cure:
The venom to your hearts has sped
Look up, look up, or you are dead.
Believe whate’er Jehovah saith,
This miracle of mercy prove;
Look to the cross of Christ in faith,
That look can guilt and sin remove:
Look up, look up, and never cease
Till you have pardon, grace, and peace.
