Children, you have seen baptized,
Some as young, perhaps, as you;
But they first salvation prized,
And, we hope, have won it too.
They have found what they have sought,
Now beneath the Saviour’s care;
And thus far through mercy brought,
They will soon his glory share.
Christ our Lord to save the lost,
Left his blissful throne above;
And bestows the Holy Ghost
Upon all who trust his love.
Parents, who his favour sought
For their children to him pressed;
Jesus wished them to be brought
Took them in his arms and blessed.
Still his blessing he imparts,
You are dear to his as they;
Children, give to him your hearts,
Children, seek his grace to day.
Then believing in the Lord,
Think what he on earth expressed,
“Those who shall believe my word.
“And shall be baptized, are blessed.”
Like these, may you in your youth
Come to Christ, a happy band;
And converted by the truth,
Be baptized at his command.
Bless, O Jesus, with thy love,
These who have thy name confessed;
And may their example prove
Means of blessing to the rest.
