Jesus emerging from the stream,
Now lifts his prayer on high;
And, lo, the Spirit’s radiant beam
Descending from the sky.
The heavens are ope’d and like a dove
It rests on him alone;
“This,” saith the Father’s voice above,
“Is my beloved Son.”
So those to whom by sovereign grace,
pardon and life are given,
When they the Saviour’s name confess,
Are sealed the heirs of heaven.
Emblem of love and purity
No more descends the Dove;
But he whom it revealed is nigh,
To fill their hearts with love.
O Christ, who hast thy kindness shown,
Shedding for us thy blood,
Thy word we keep, thy rights we own,
By this baptismal flood.
May we for ever bear the seal,
That we are wholly thine;
Now grow in wisdom, love, and zeal,
Then share thy bliss divine.
