O God who art our Friend,
Almighty and all good,
Wilt thou not save us to the end,
Through our Redeemer’s blood?
Thou didst renew within,
Thou didst arrest our path;
Or we had perished in our sin,
Beneath thy righteous wrath.
Devoted unto thee,
By the baptismal sign,
And from thy righteous curse set free,
We own that we are thine.
Come in thy might and love,
Break all resistance down;
All sloth and unbelief remove,
And make our hearts thy throne.
Our whole salvation thou,
make us thine own abode;
Baptize us in thy Spirit now;
Delay not, O our God.
This day, O God, this hour,
Fill us with love divine;
Put forth thy sanctifying power,
And make us wholly thine.
Thy richest gifts afford,
Come and no more depart;
And make us like our heavenly Lord,
Like him in act and heart.
Bold sinners to reprove,
Firm through all changing time,
Filled with his holiness and love,
In every thing like him.
Faithful his race he ran,
So by thy help may we;
Like him the friends of suffering man,
Servants like him to thee.
