SUPERIORITY OF THE GOSPEL

Where, sin is found, and guilt and shame,
The law does nothing but condemn;
But in the gospel of our God,
We hear of reconciling blood.

‘Tis here we read that Jesus died,
And here behold him crucified,
What sufferings he for us endured,
And how salvation was procured.

An alsufficient price he paid,
And perfect satisfaction made;
“‘Tis finished,” the Redeemer cries,
And God approves the sacrifice.

Now he implants his grace within,
And makes our sinful nature clean;
To purge our guilt, restore our frame,
Jesus by blood and water came.

Hosanna to the Prince of peace,
Who sprung from David’s royal race;
Let angels bow before his throne,
And saints adore th’ incarnate Son.
