Prayer is a heavenly balm
To the afflicted soul;
It gives the troubled conscience ease,
And makes the spirits whole.
Relief it oft affords,
When we are sore distressed;
Removes our unbelieving fears,
And leads us to our rest.
It brings us fresh supplies,
As urgent needs requires;
But God no special blessing grants,
Where there are no desires.
Ye careless souls attend,
And seek the Lord to-day;
When once the sentence is gone forth,
‘Tis then too late to pray.
