Sinners involved in deep distress,
A thousand methods try;
Their wounds to heal, their fears suppress,
And make convictions fly.
From grosser sins they now refrain,
To God their sorrows tell;
Purpose and strife, confess, complain,
And hope that all is well.
But Jesus’ blood and grace alone,
Can save the ruined soul;
That must for all his sins atone,
And this his lusts control.
