Now be my tuneful powers employed,
To sing of liberty;
Long had I been in bondage held,
Till Jesus set me free.
Enslaved by sin, a captive sold,
By Satan’s wiles betrayed;
I often tried to break my chains,
But still in irons laid.
The Saviour’s aid I then implored,
And straight he heard my cry;
The iron bondage soon he broke,
And brought salvation nigh.
Now to his altar I will bind
The willing sacrifice;
And night and day my grateful songs
Shall to his throne arise.
