Hymn/Song Information

PERPLEXED BUT NOT IN DESPAIR

My soul, what fearest thou,
And whence is this dismay?
Is there not ground for hope,
Since thou hast leave to pray?
Thy God invited thee to his throne,
Haste them, and make thy sorrows known.

Thy various doubts and fears
But ill become a saint;
They show thy faith is small,
Thy hope to be but faint:
Learn then while in the wilderness,
To trust in God for needful grace.

Let passions all be still,
And gloomy thoughts be gone;
Behind yon spreading cloud,
I see the rising sun;
Sure it will bring the welcome day,
And doubts and fears shall flee away.
