Farewell,vain world, your charms I bid adieu;
My Saviour taught me to abandon you;
Your smiles may gratify a carnal mind,
But not a soul for heavenly joys designed.
Forbear t' entice, cease new my soul to call—
'Tis fixed through grace—my God shall be my all;
While thus my soul does heavenly glories view,
Your beauties fade, my heart's no room for you.
Earth can no comfort to my soul afford,
While I possess my Saviour and my Lord;
He, my dear God, shall freely have my heart,
Nor shall he evermore from thence depart.
