There is a mine for silver
A place where gold is found
And earthy ores deliver
The tools that men compound.
But in those darkest caverns
Man in his greed doth see
No sign of God the maker
Or why this world should be.
Deep down the shafts of darkness
He mines in sulphurous gloom,
As rocks and dangers witness
The toil that renders soon
A fiery transformation
Of gold and gems untold;
And through his perspiration
Takes for himself that load.
These gifts were not provided
For animals to gloat.
No savage beast nor vulture
Could of these glories quote.
But man in all his glory
And by his self-claimed greed
Sees little of the story
Of what the Lord decreed.
These treasures were provided
To test man's first true love.
That long before determined
We'd treasure find above.
Oh, help us seek that treasure
Beyond all earthly greed
And through Christ's sole endeavour
From worldly sin be freed.
God's wisdom is far better
Than all the treasure store;
And understanding never
Can lose to golden ore.
God has a heavenly kingdom
Beyond earth's rich domain
So better far the wisdom
Where Godly fear does reign.
