My Lord from Ivory Palace came
Into this world of woe.
He came despite our sin and shame
For freedom to bestow.
But few indeed could recognise
The promises of old;
That Christ would come to open eyes
His Mercy to behold.
He came in human form for us
To show man how to live;
Fulfilling every scripture thus
That He new life can give.
Man's sin could not by works atone
For all our waywardness.
'Twas only by His blood alone
Man's folly could redress.
Such sacrifice upon the cross
Was the just penalty.
I do not know why such a cost
Was paid to set me free.
For hardened hearts can never love
Or warm to Godly Fear.
It takes the Spirit from above
To make man shed a tear.
But now no veil can hang between
Myself and Love Divine.
Love never has there ever been
As Saviour, Lord, like Thine.
