When You Your mercy showed
To them who were your foes,
When sinners to you bowed
And floods of tears arose
For sins forgiven by Grace employed;
Your saints rejoiced in heav'nly joy.
Yet in this latter day
Your church in tears doth sow.
We see with great dismay
A land that does not know
Of Godly rule and saintly zeal,
Of pious hearts and Christ's appeal.
Restore our fortunes, Lord,
Not for our will but Yours
For we who sow in tears
Seek but Your heav'nly cause.
We would bring back those golden sheaves
Of new souls who in You believe.
Unless You build Your house
Our efforts are in vain.
Restore your call to us
That we in You retain
A sense of joyous piety
And faith that worldly men may see.
So hear us as we pray
Not for the world's reward;
But in this evil day
Your Name should be adored
By sons, a heritage from You,
That Christ, Your children may pursue.
