Lord, time goes by like grains of sand
That slip through fingers of our hand.
We can’t wind back the passing time
To former glories, times divine.
The sins of former years are passed
And yet we fail, though these confessed,
To learn to mourn our waywardness
And seek Your mercies in distress.
Lord, true repentance sweetly give,
That we may come to You and live
A life more worthy of Your name
That in our land Your rule shall reign.
Closed is Your Book to many a mind,
No solace can the wandr’er find
Unless Your Gospel Voice is heard
And Holy Faith on them conferred.
So raise up Godly men, we pray,
Help them Your Glory to display,
In village, byway and the town,
That Christ Himself will gain renown.
Start, Lord, within Your church we pray,
Speak to each heart while it is day,
Send each one forth in Holy Power
Send to this land a blessed shower.
Not for our glory, we desire,
But that the world in Holy fire
May give all glory to Your Name.
Break forth and in resplendence reign.
